Hi Guys:
I wanted to join the call tonight but I'm afraid I'm sick today and feeling really awful. I'm also running to the loo every few minutes - ate somethiing that didn't agree with me last night - hopefully it will pass by tomorrow.
In the meantime I wanted to give you a summary of the feedback and my immediate thoughts on this Framwork.
Thanks to Steve, eemil, bishamonten, abscat7, huge, wegz420, shaun, madtiget1990, robe43, fiber, modfan and sickbay for your comments.
Some good suggestions for additional content / categories - great - we can add those in.
Here are my thoughts on the other observations you have made:
1. It's big, it's scary and it's going to be a real challenge:
Agreed. Everything worthwhile is. Don't be disheartened though.
My favourite character zendog says (as he drifts happily in his boat with his sunglasses on)
'He knows not where he's going
for the oceans will decide,
it's not the destination -
it's the glory of the ride.'
We'll eat this up one bite at a time and before you know it you'll wonder how you ever got from here to there. There's something fabulous about being in control of your destiny and knowing why you are doing certain things - why you are winning - consciously being in the zone at the table and 'owning' rather than simply 'witnessing' every pot won. Believe me that's worth working for - you will enjoy poker like you never imagined.
2. Let's not get too bogged down with prioritizing (huge)
Agree wholeheartedly. Most of us know just with some common sense what needs to be done before what. Sure there needs to be some fine tuning and everyone's needs / priorities will be different but I suggest initially a few of us will just order the list and we can all get cracking.
3. What's this categorization of novice / strong / world class etc?
I hope I explained that in the main thread. Sort of like milestones for us.
4. Linking stuff together for easy access / cross referencing will be important / how will this work in a spreadsheet?
Agree. Content management has many challenges and this is one of them. Don't know the answer yet but we'll work it out. You guys focus on the content (the knowledge) and I'll work with Steve to come up with a sensible platform that makes life easy for us.
5. Give me the 'meat and potatoes' (steve)
Of course the strategy section is of most immediate interest steve - however you do need some greens for a well balanced diet! I agree though - the starving man just wants a bit of something tasty to chew on so lets make sure we start with some enjoyable quick wins that we can all identify with.
6. Should all this be secure?
Yep - Let's not give away the crown jewels. We need to implement some kind of member only areas for approved contributors (I know steve has some good ideas for how we can do that).
As I understand it we are going to start by getting the core members to each review a set of videos / articles for different coaches and identify the 'essence' of what they can teach us in each of a number of specific categories from the framework. So for example:
Let's say that turns out to be 5 categories.
And let's say Amy was looking at Rizen.
Amy would then go through Rizen's material and build up a list of links against each category. Some categories might be empty because he doen't talk about that one and some might be pretty full because it's a hot topic for him. At the end of that exercise we might have something which has the following against each 'nugget' or concept she finds:
'Coach / Source' (e.g. Rizen)
'Link' (to article or video segment)
'Catgeory' (e.g. identifying 3bet opportunities)
'Quality' (a subjectively based number from 1 to 10 indicating how good this content is for communicating the concept. 1 would be super and detailed and 10 might be just a passing reference from someone who didn't really explain it properly)
'Related Catgories' (e.g. while explaining when, why and how to spot these 3bet opportunities, he might talk about how important your HUD or your notes are so we would want to link to those categories)
'Member confidence level' (Amy would indicate her own level of confidence in this concept using say 1=This was all Greek to me, 2=Understand what he's saying but could never do that, 3=Understand and this is part of my game, 4=I do it and I could help to teach it to members)
That's my initial thoughts.
We should not worry about how to get this all collated - leave that for now - just use a spreadsheet (steve & I will work on a template and circulate) and let's have some fun with it.
Sorry need to run now - catch you all later,
Mark
